Nominations Being Accepted for Business Awards

The achievements and contributions of the North Perth business community will be honoured.
Nominations are open for the 2010 North Perth Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.
Chamber General Manager Tami Chauvin says residents are encouraged to recognize businesses meeting the criteria
in any of the 8 categories including Retail/Service under and over 20 employees, Industrial under and over 20 employees, Community Service Business of the Year and Local Focus Business.
Chauvin says nomination forms are available at www.npchamber.com or by calling 519-291-1551.
The deadline is September 10th.
The 2010 North Perth Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards will be held in Atwood on October 19th.

Dream of Glory in Hanover

It's a big weekend for Hanover Raceway.
Tonight is the track's Dream of Glory final.
28 horses competed in four divisions to earn spots in the season's signature race. Five of those that made the final have local ties.
Dream of Glory day includes a Bar-b-q, live music and carriage rides between races. It wraps up with a huge fireworks display for what's expected to be an audience of five thousand fans.
Sunday afternoon Hanover Raceway opens the backstretch to the public. Fans will get a tour, learn about care and training of race horses, and try their hand at driving with a pro.
The open house runs 1 to 4pm.

Celtic Music Festival in Goderich Hits the Road

The Celtic Music Festival in Goderich is hitting the road this year to offer people around the county at taste of this year's line up.
Spokesman Glen Carey says they're bringing the event on the road this year.
A series of concerts around the county begin this weekend to celebrate the theme of this years festival: Rural roots..

Carey says they're holding concerts in places like Bayfield, Seaforth, Kingsbridge, Exeter, Clinton and Blyth.
The festival itself starts at noon each day, starting next Friday, through Sunday, at Harbour Park in Goderich.

Upgrades for the Formosa Community Centre

Formosa Community Centre is in line for a facelift.
Recreation coordinator Steve Schwippl [swipp el] says the 50 thousand dollar project will see exterior work and upgrades to lighting and ceilings inside.
Schwippl says the Formosa Community Centre is the social hub of the village.
The revamped Community Centre will also be the major activity spot for Formosa's homecoming in August 2011.

Jump in New Construction in Southgate

New construction continues to boom in Southgate. Chief Building Official Doug Kopp says there were 30 permits worth 1.4 million dollars in June. The total value of permits to the end of June this year was 6.7 million dollars, more than double the total for the same period last year. Kopp attributed the Southgate building boom to great weather early in the year and buyers trying to avoid the HST.
